How would you change your life and your priorities if you had only one month to live? It's definitely something to ponder...
Roby was running about 10 miles a day and biking 20 miles per day. He was keeping a close eye on his diet; counting calories and making it balanced. Then, he was playing golf and thought he threw his back out at 29 years of age. He went to the doctor, and they sent him to an oncologist. At the oncologist, they gave him 6 months to live. That was in January of 2000. 2 days before his 30th birthday, June 29, 2000, Roby passed away in his sleep at the hospital. He was on morphene, so he wasn't in pain.
He had always been tremendously shy. So shy, in fact, that he had only been on 1 date in his entire life. He didn't graduate college because he wouldn't take the required speech classes. So he quit college with only 6 hours remaining until his degree.
Roby once got a new pastor at his church. The attendance at this church was probably 10-15 people each Sunday and every person there had known Roby his entire life. Roby called and we were talking and he said that he wasn't going back to church because he was deathly afraid that the pastor would call on him to pray. Well, after a month, he returned to church; sure enough, the new pastor called on Roby to pray. Thankfully for Roby, he was prepared. You see, when we cleaned out his house, we found pages of prayers that he had written out in preparation for praying in church.
Needless to say, and Roby said it himself when he was cancer ridden, that he hadn't lived his life the way God had wanted him to. But, even with a grim future ahead of him, Roby started living his life like he had One Month to Live.
Will you wait until you are faced with an uncertain future, or, heaven forbid, cancer, to live your life the way God intended?
